I Was Looking For a Job and Then I Found a Job

Well, that's one thing ticked off my new year resolution. I have a job now. It's a chain bookstore job. I'm a product advisor. That means I'm doing everything except cleaning the store itself (although they actually told me I might have to do that as well... so far that hasn't come up yet). It's a nice job. Consistent clock in and clock out time. Once the day's over it's over, no emails and phone calls. I've been doing this since the start of this month and while I wouldn't say I love it, it's been all right.

I was asked why I took this job. Truth be told, because I know the store is pretty empty on most days so there's not a whole lot of customer handling to be done. And also because if I have to work in food service I might just die. The pay is frankly abysmal, 13k for a month's work. It's only viable for me because I don't have to pay rent or bills. They said I'll get a raise and 2 more days off per month once I passed the probation period. I'm more excited about the days off than the raise to be honest. I'm currently working 6 days a week, 8 hours on my feet, and my shoes aren't exactly comfortable.

Where do I see myself in the future? In another job, obviously. But there are people in the store who have worked here for 10+ years which is just wild to me. But apparently it was a much more fun place to work back in the days before the change in leadership took the chain to a more... conservative direction. The senior staff used to wear dungarees to work and now they're clad in green polos and black slacks. Anyway, I'm not in a pressing need to look for a better job right now, so I'd probably stick around here for at least 6 months. I've grown attached to my little corner of the store, the Thai-language books section, which is located way back in the corner next to other less lucrative books like those big, bulky art and design books, and unauthorised Taylor Swift coffee table books. I've also just been assigned to take care of the language learning section and told to learn about SAT exams and the likes. It's a lot of miscellaneous works.

But yeah, if the 3 of you have been wondering what happened to me and my near-daily stream of posts, this is why.
